Tech News of The Week 📣

Starting January 2026, American Airlines will offer free high-speed Wi-Fi on nearly 90% of its fleet, specifically on aircraft equipped with Viasat and Intelsat satellite connectivity. This marks a significant shift, as American Airlines has historically charged passengers for Wi-Fi, unlike some competitors. The airline partnered with AT&T to deliver this “best-in-class” inflight internet service. To prepare, American Airlines conducted a limited complimentary Wi-Fi test on select routes, which exceeded performance expectations.
Access to the free Wi-Fi requires membership in the AAdvantage loyalty program, but signing up is free and straightforward. American Airlines claims this move will provide free inflight connectivity on more planes than any other domestic carrier, enhancing the travel experience for its customers, particularly Apple fans who already benefit from complimentary Apple Music and Apple TV+ offers onboard. This initiative aligns American Airlines with other major carriers offering free Wi-Fi, improving its competitive edge and customer satisfaction (9to5Mac).
